Utakata

Utakata was a missing-nin from Kirigakure and the jinchuriki of the Six-Tails, which has been captured and sealed by Akatsuki, causing his death when the beast was extracted. However, upon his resurrection, the Six-Tails appears to have been resealed within him.

Background

Prior to the events of the Tsuchigumo Kinjutsu Arc, Utakata promised himself to never use the Six-Tails’ power and trained with his master Harusame. Eventually, Utakata would come to claim that Harusame betrayed him, almost taking his life, for the tailed beast’s power.

According to a member of Kirigakure’s ANBU, his master did not, in fact, betray him, but was actually trying to extract the Six-Tails from Utakata. The process didn’t go as planned, and instead of removing the tailed beast, Harusame forced Utakata’s transformation into the Six-Tails and was killed by it. With only fragmented memories of the incident and the impression of betrayal, Utakata grew disillusioned and sceptical of the relationship between a master and student. He became a wanderer, constantly fighting off people who were after him, particularly the Hunter-nin sent from Kirigakure to retrieve him.

One day, he was attacked again. A girl named Hotaru, who happened to be there, assumed the assailants were after her. Utakata managed to fend off his attackers, but was injured in the process. Believing that Utakata had saved her, Hotaru took him to her family’s fort for treatment. After he recovered, Hotaru begged him to train her in his ninjutsu, but Utakata adamantly refused, not wanting to become anyone’s master.

Personality

Kishimoto described Utakata as “charming”. In the anime’s Tsuchigumo Kinjutsu Arc, where Utakata’s character is given a bit more depth, he is usually depicted with a stoic, calm and carefree personality, preferring solitude and is not particularly talkative. Although, if the sensitive subject of student-master relationships is brought up, it typically manages to rouse his annoyance and anger. Hotaru is often on the receiving end of Utakata’s ire on this matter as she constantly nags him to become her “master”. As a result of his complicated relationship with his late master, he utterly despises the word, having remarked that he isn’t foolish enough to ever take on the title.

In one instance, he said, “I told you not to call me master.”, to Hotaru as he floated away in a bubble. Hotaru’s unyielding attachment and reverence to Utakata flusters him. Despite Utakata’s genuine protective feelings for Hotaru, they are hard for him to acknowledge and express due to his nomadic nature and scarring past, though he acts on them if ever Hotaru is in danger. When Hotaru showed Utakata the kinjutsu that had been sealed into her, he visibly displayed anger and outrage that someone would do something like that. He also has a strong sense of honour, often determined to repay his debts to others (like his assuming a guardian role to Hotaru since she and Tonbee saved him). Like Naruto, he has resolved not to rely on his tailed beast for power, aware of the destruction it may cause, an indicator of his maturity. Tonbee also commented that Utakata lacked “greed”.

Interestingly, Utakata seemed to have a better relationship with his tailed beast than most, as he could ask it to fully release its power without it forcefully overtaking Utakata’s consciousness. The Six-Tails accomplished only the task wished by Utakata and retreated back into him without any resistance.[2]

Appearance

Utakata is a tall, thin, young man with pale golden eyes and black hair that reaches to his shoulders. His side partition lets a large portion of his bangs cover the left side of his face. He wears a long, light blue kimono adorned with a small emblem of three bubbles on the back, a pair of black pants underneath his kimono below the collar, and an orange sash. He carries a bamboo jug, filled with a soap solution, and a pipe.

In the anime where his background is expounded on, it is shown that during his time in Kirigakure he wore a full body grey suit along with a variant of the village’s flak jacket which had very low shoulder guards as well as a zipper and a pouch on the upper right chest. He also wore the village’s forehead protector, fingerless gloves, as well as bandages on his forearms.
Abilities Edit

In the anime, he was shown to be agile and nimble in battle, effortlessly dodging and out-manoeuvring all of Naruto’s attacks and the assaults from Nangō, Akaboshi, Benten, and Chūshin. He is very observant as he noticed that Akaboshi and his group had a change in their chakra flow. He is also knowledgeable in tracking and herbal remedies.
Nature Transformation Edit
Utakata use the Water Release: Bubbles Technique.

Utakata fights using soap bubble (しゃぼん玉, shabondama) ninjutsu from the Bubble-line (バブル系, Baburu-kei) of Water Release ninjutsu, performed with a unique kind of bubble-blowing relic.

In the manga Utakata’s bubbles have shown an explosive property as seen with his Water Release: Bubbles Technique which themselves can explode on contact with the target or be manipulated to explode all at once by the user.

In the anime, this style of ninjutsu is shown to be very versatile. Capable of tactics beyond simply harming opponents, the bubble technique grants Utakata a wide array of offensive and defensive options in combat. With Explosive Bubble, an example of an offensive skill, Utakata emits streams of explosive bubbles that detonate at will. Utakata can also craft dozens of ink-filled bubbles that can immobilise and kill opponents instantly without leaving any trace of them, another offensive variation. Defensively, the bubbles are equally adaptable. Using the Floating Bubble Technique, Utakata can transport and conceal himself simultaneously. He can also create an enormous bubble barrier to protect himself or his allies from attacks like an explosive tag.

Utakata is able to create some bubbles without the use of his bubble blower. In one instance, when Shiranami’s technique was pursuing a messenger bird, Utakata popped his floating bubble and conjured another beneath his feet while his bubble blower was occupied with defending the bird.
Jinchuriki Transformations Edit

Utakata and the Six-Tails.

When Utakata loses his temper, he taps into the Six-Tails’ power, enabling him to discharge a burst of the Six-Tails’ chakra, similar to that of Naruto’s and Killer B’s. Before unleashing the tailed beast, Utakata’s eyes turn golden. Although he is not one of the four mentioned to be able to fully control their tailed beast, Utakata is able to use the power of each level of the Six-Tails’ chakra up to the full Six-Tails form, like Yugito Nii. And despite promising to never use the Six-Tails’ power, he was able to stop and absorb a powerful technique, Fury, without any harm by summoning it out of desperation.

When he was resurrected and the Six-Tails was resealed back into him. Utakata was able to partially transform into the Six-Tails, manifesting one tail. When attacked and immobilised by B’s clone, Utakata transformed into his Version 2 form to avoid being sealed away. When he attacked B in his Full-Eight Tails Form, he was shown to able to secrete a corrosive, alkaline substance in this form, which was strong enough to burn the skin of the Eight-Tails. When Tobi forced Utakata to enter his full Six-Tails form, he was able to emit a corrosive gas from its mouths.

Kinkaku’s Jinchuriki Forms

After eating some of the flesh from the stomach of Kurama, the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, Kinkaku, like his brother Ginkaku, gained powers and abilities similar to that of the beast’s jinchuuriki.

Version 2

While enraged, Kinkaku can access a massive amount of the Nine-Tails’ chakra, enough to enter a more muscular version of Naruto’s Version 2 forms, but with six tails. However, unlike Naruto’s six-tailed form, it lacks the beast’s skeleton and Kinkaku retains his consciousness.

The power of this form revolved mainly around its abnormally long middle tail. With it he could smash entire cliffs to pieces and agitate the ocean enough to create waves, as well as block a torrent of kunai, throw aside a giant rolling tank, and break out of the Shadow Imitation Technique.

Chapter starts with the Sanbi about to crush Kakashi and Gai, but Naruto jumps into the air in front of them transforms into the full Kyuubi and catches the attack with one of his tails and then sends the Sanbi flying with a punch. The Gobi attacks, but Kurama blocks it. The Rokubi tries another one of his acid attacks, but Kurama moves his tails aside to reveal that he had hidden the Hachibi shooting a bijuudama at him from Tobi’s sight.

The bijuudama injures the Rokubi severely and the Hachibi continues on to face the Niibi extinguishing one of her fireballs with his ink. The Nanabi attacks and lands a blow on Kurama forcing his head to the ground right next to Kakashi causing a dust cloud.

Gai is all ZOMG TEH Kyuubi is free, but Kabuto says to trust Naruto. Kakashi and Kurama exchange a glance and Kurama recovers to attack the Nanabi, however it evades and the Gobi rushes in again. Kurama counters by biting the Gobi in the neck targeting the stake which is there. However before he can reach it he’s blown away by the combined attacks of the Sanbi and the Nanabi. Tobi makes a comment how even the Kyuubi is no match against three of the bijuu.

However Kurama/Naruto grins saying that he isn’t alone and next we see that Kakashi who had hidden inside of Kurama’s mouth when he bit the Gobi destroys the second stake with a Kamui.

After twelve long years of the audience watching him grow up, Naruto has finally been accepted by Kurama, the one character who not only was the most stubborn in refusing Naruto, but also the one who was inadvertently responsible for all of Naruto’s difficulties. This is a moment to remember.

Naruto 571: No One’s Shadow

Naruto: OK, Kurama, time to do this!

Kurama: *sigh* Naruto, you did more than enough for now,
I will take it from here!

Tobi: !

(Kurama goes and attacks all the tailed beasts, but the
Nibi manages to tackle him)

Kurama: Don’t make me laugh you damn cat! You were way better
than this before, wake up!

(Kurama grabs Nibi and rag-dolls him to the ground)

*Everyone*: !!!

(Sanbi and Rokubi charge in, but their attacks are blocked
by Kurama’s tail and Hachibi’s fists)

(Nanabi goes into the offensive, but is being blocked by
a duo attack from Gai/Kakashi)

Gai: …Kakashi… I think I need to open more gates,
this fight is impossible…

Kakashi: Gai, we are in front of the new generation of
shinobi, OUR STUDENTS, and no, I don’t want to believe
they need any help, we will only support them for now,
after all,…, we are no match for the tailed beasts.
Gai, take it from your own book: The Power of Youth!!!

(Gai starts to shed a tear): Gai: Kakashi… you’re right!

(Meanwhile, Tobi senses something approaching…)

Kurama: …ugh, what… is this strange chakra… that is
coming…

(Kurama is getting weak by the coming chakra)

Naruto: What’s wrong? What is going on?

(Tobi’s tailed beasts are all on the ground and slowly
getting back up… but then…!)

Naruto 570 Reviews – Naruto & 9 Tails Team Up!!

Two expected developments in this week’s edition of Naruto. The first was that removing the stake only defeats the puppet and doesn’t free Son Goku from Tobi’s grasp, and this isn’t surprising since Tobi cannot to lose any of the beasts if he has any chance of carrying out his master plan.

The second is that Kurama and Naruto finally agree to cooperate and fight together as a team. This of course has been a long time coming. It took Naruto a long time to convince Kurama, and it also took Kurama some time to finally stop being tsundere and get to the point, but the day when Naruto can finally access to full power of the nine-tails may be at hand.

Let’s see if Naruto can do the full beast transformation and used the Tailed Beast Bomb now that Kurama has decided to help out.
